Squitieri & Fearon, LLP is investigating claims on behalf of consumers who have purchased Chinese-made laminate flooring from Lumber Liquidators.  If you or somebody you know bought flooring from Lumber Liquidators or had health problems, you should contact our lawyers immediately for a free case consultation.

Several class action lawsuits have been filed against Lumber Liquidators for selling Chinese-made laminate wood or bamboo flooring that contains toxic levels of formaldehyde, a cancer-causing chemical.  The products were marketed as “environmentally-friendly,” with advertisements featuring children running and playing on the floors.  However, lawsuits claim the products were labeled as formaldehyde-compliant when in fact they were not.

The problem is that the “core” of the product is made of wood particles stuck together with a cheap glue that contains formaldehyde.  Over time, formaldehyde gas seeps out of the core and into the air.

Breathing this toxic chemical can cause severe health problems, including cancer and asthma.  The risk is especially serious for young children, because they spend a lot of time playing or crawling on the ground.

A recent 60 Minutes investigation tested several of the company’s laminate flooring products and found that nearly all of the samples contained high levels of formaldehyde, a chemical that may cause a host of health problems, including respiratory issues and cancer, with high levels of exposure.  While formaldehyde is commonly used in the flooring industry as a binding agent, there are strict limits on how much of the chemical can be used.  It has been reported that Lumber Liquidators’ laminate flooring exceeds these limits and that the Chinese factories supplying the flooring mislabeled the products as meeting stringent health standards.
